Light Up The Night 2016


WHAT: Hopewell’s Annual Tree Lighting and Parade

WHEN: December 4th 5:30pm – 8pm (Parade starts at 3:30)

WHERE: Ashford Civic Plaza

In Downtown Hopewell – In between City Hall and the Courthouse

[intro] “Light Up The Night” is Hopewell’s Annual Tree Lighting 2.0! This will be the third year where we include the parade on the same day as the tree lighting, as well as offer a FREE live Holiday Concert in the Beacon. Starting at 6pm, next to the Beacon and at Ashford Civic Plaza there will FREE Horse and Carriage Rides, Choir, Hot Chocolate, a petting zoo, and more.[/intro]
Schedule of events is as follows:

3:30-5:30pm: Holiday Parade from Cavalier Square to Ashford Civic Plaza (see route below to find a place to watch)
5:30-6pm: Tree Lighting at Ashford Civic Plaza (starts at the end of the parade which should be around 5:30)
6:00-8pm: Free Holiday Concert in the Beacon Auditorium

6-8pm: Throughout the evening there will be Horse and Carriage rides departing from next to the Beacon on E Cawson Street. Along E Broadway Ave will be train rides for the kids along with a petting zoo. Visits with Santa will take place starting at 6:00pm inside the Beacon.

Restrooms: Will there be public restrooms along the parade route? No. Public restrooms will not be available along the

Where: Where does the tree lighting take place? Ashford Civic Plaza (Downtown between City Hall and Courthouse)
Time: What time does the event start and end? 5:30-8:00 pm. (Tree Lighting will start at the end of the parade which is estimated at around 5:30pm . Plan to get there a little earlier)
Activities: What else will be taking place? There will be train rides, a petting zoo, horse and carriage rides,
time with Santa, and a holiday concert at the Beacon Theater.
Cost: Does it cost anything to attend? No. Concessions will be available for purchase and some refreshments will be
free of charge. Rides are free. Concert is free.
Parking: Where can I park? Parking is available on the street, in the courthouse parking lot, in the city lot beside the
Ligon Jones building, the lot across from the post office, at the Hopewell Community Center, and in the lot behind the
Beacon Theater.
Restrooms: Are restrooms available? Yes. Restrooms are available in the Beacon Theater.
Will businesses downtown be open? Yes. Some businesses will be open during the event and vendors will be along E Broadway
Lane Closure: What streets will be closed for this event? E. Broadway from Rt. 10 to Hopewell Street. Cawson Street
from Rt. 10 to Hopewell Street. Library Street from Appomattox Street to E. Broadway.

Performers: Who will be performing? Choral and band groups from Hopewell High School and the Appomattox Regional
Governor’s School.
Family Friendly: Is this a family-oriented concert? Yes. All ages are welcome.
Refreshments: Will the Beacon be serving refreshments? Yes. Concessions will be available for purchase.
